1998-1999 End of Season reviewBedlington Terriers won their second successive first division championship, by a convincing 26 points from second place Tow Law Town. It was the first time that a first division side had passed the 100 point mark. Durham City were also runaway winners in the second division. The previous season they had been relegated from the first division by one goal. Shotton Comrades were promoted for the first time in their 15 year history in the second division, and Peterlee Newtown took the third promotion spot. Dunston Fed. retained the League Cup, by beating Jarrow Roofing, 4-1 after extra time. Ashington won the Craven Cup by beating Evenwood Town 1-0. In the FA Cup, both Bedlington Terriers and West Auckland Town reached the first
round proper. Terriers 4-1 win over second division Colchester United won them the
Sky TV Performance of the Week award, while West Auckland's defeat by
Yeovil on penalties, (in the replay), was no less heroic. Scunthorpe United beat Bedlington 2-0 in the next round. Both goals coming in the
second half. Bedlington became the third successive Northern League side to reach Wembley for the FA Vase final. For the second year
running however, a substitutes goal saw Tiverton Town lift the Vase, 1-0. FA Vase
